Casino Worker with Meningitis Doing Better

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "A casino worker who came down with bacterial meningitis last week is doing better, Ronald Cash said Monday.

"Cash, the Atlantic City Health and Human Services director, said officials at the Atlantic City Medical Center, City Division, in Atlantic City, told him the patient is improving.

"…The worker suffered from meningitis caused by streptococcus pneumoniae, one of three bacteria that are most often responsible for meningitis. Health officials said Sunday they are usually more concerned with the more-infectious neisseria meningitidis.

"… Cash reiterated his belief that there is little to fear from the man's streptococcus pneumoniae-caused meningitis. In 23 years of working for the city's Health Department, he said the city has seen similar infections once or twice a year…"
