Casino Winner Helps Out Hurricane Victims

RENO, Nevada – As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "Friends, family and a new life met Martha Rodriguez on Wednesday at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

"As her grandchildren, Anna Lopez, 5, and Carmella Lopez, 3, screamed with joy at seeing 'uncles' Jon Wamba and Jeffrey DiMaria, Rodriguez covered her face and wiped tears from her eyes.

"Hurricane Katrina victims Wamba, DiMaria and the Rodriguez family have been adopted by Jackie Cramer of South Lake Tahoe, who pledged to use some of her gambling winnings to help them start new lives.

"Cramer hit several tiny jackpots at Harrah's Reno when Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. She pledged to help people relocate and enlisted casino officials at Harrah's Reno to find them.

"Cramer won't reveal exactly how much she won, but she estimated she will be spending $20,000 to $30,000 helping the survivors.

"She agreed to pay for rent and utilities for 10 people for the next three months, if Harrah's would employ them…"
