Casino Windsor Workers to Vote on Deal

ONTARIO – As reported by the Detroit Free Press: "Casino Windsor could reopen Saturday if its unionized employees ratify a tentative agreement reached Wednesday evening, a spokeswoman for the casino said.

"About 3,500 members of Canadian Auto Workers Local 444 were to vote on the tentative 3-year agreement today, said Holly Ward, spokeswoman for Casino Windsor.

"…The employees walked off the job April 3 after the casino and the union reached an impasse. The two sides disagreed about wages, benefits and the transition to cashless slot machines, which may cost jobs.

"Lewenza said the agreement improves wages, benefits, working conditions and pension plans.

"…Talks resumed Friday at the Holiday Inn Select in Windsor after the Ontario Ministry of Labor came to the city last Thursday with mediators, Ward said. Casino and union officials spoke through the mediators about the contract issues.

"..Casino Windsor attracts 12,750 patrons daily and is losing about $1 million in gambling revenue each day, based on its latest quarterly results…"
