Casino Windsor Talks Begin

WINDSOR, Ontario – As reported by the Windsor Star: "Casino Windsor and union representatives had what CAW Local 444 president Ken Lewenza called 'constructive talks' Tuesday in a bid to end a bitter strike by casino employees.

"The two sides met for the first time in 10 days for 'exploratory' discussions to find a way toward a solution in the 40-day-old strike.

"…The bargaining committees were at the meeting throughout the day, though it was initially going to be a feeling-out session to find out where the two sides stood, rather than a contract negotiating session.

"…The meeting was set up by head mediator Reg Pearson, appointed by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, to try and break the impasse between management and more than 3,000 casino members of Local 444…"
