Casino Windsor faces strike2 April 2008ONTARIO – As reported by the Windsor Star: "Casino Windsor will likely start notifying patrons today of a possible strike by week's end if contract negotiations don't start gaining momentum, CAW Local 444 president Ken Lewenza said Tuesday. "Negotiations are continuing between representatives of the CAW and the casino in an effort to avert a fourth strike in 13 years at the riverfront gaming operation. Nearly 3,000 workers could walk off the job as early as 12:01 a.m. Friday if no agreement is reached. "But Lewenza said it would take more than a day to actually wind down operations once a strike is called because of the size of the property and the number of regulatory measures which have to be taken before the doors are locked. "…In addition to wages in 22 categories across the collective agreement, staffing issues related to the $400-million casino expansion appear central to the negotiations." |
