Casino Windsor Challenges Equity Order

ONTARIO – As reported by the Windsor Star: "Casino Windsor is challenging a pay equity order awarding some female employees raises and retroactive pay dating back to 1994, a casino spokesman said Monday.

"…The Feb. 27 pay equity order directs Casino Windsor to pay its mostly female casino cashiers, concierge attendants and resort cashiers wages similar to those of mainly male security guards, liquor room attendants and store clerks.

"The case centres on what the women earn in tips. When the union and casino reached the 2001 settlement they factored gratuities into the females' wages.

"But the women who launched the complaint argued casino cashiers, concierge attendants and resort cashiers rarely collect tips.
