Casino to Breathe Life into Downtown Reno29 July 2001RENO, Nevada –July 29, 2001 –As reported by the Reno Gazette Journal: “Barney Ng bought a dead property in what many considered a barely breathing part of downtown Reno in 1999. ”While there has been some development and revival in the area around his new $70-million Siena Hotel Spa & Casino, one could argue that the area along the Truckee River area currently offers more potential than prosperity. Ng hopes all that is changing and, at least outwardly, doesn’t appear nervous about his investment and already has visions for more south-of-the-river projects. ”…Stepping into another property that others might not touch or could not pull off seems appropriate for Ng, 47, who is president of Bar K Inc., a private mortgage banking firm in Lafayette, California, owned by his family. ”…Ng found Reno through a Los Angeles broker with whom Bar K does a lot of business and who had been contacted by Reno businessmen Peter Wilday, an architect, and Steve Urie, president of Lodging & Gaming Systems, which supplies automated management systems for the hotel and casino industry. ”…`We had a difference of opinion’ on the vision for the property, Ng said of the dissolved partnership. `They had a vision from a Reno perspective. I believe the vision that I have is really from a San Francisco Bay area perspective since that’s where I’m from,’ added Ng, who lives in Orinda, California, with his wife Lexie, after whom Siena’s main restaurant is named. ”…Ng talks about the casino as just another item on a menu where food, wine, hotel and spa products are just as important. The Siena’s financial return is predicated upon how well the casino does, but the other divisions will be self-sufficient, he said. ”….Siena will offer a great casino with its other amenities, with each offering its own experience, he said…” |
