Casino Tax Cuts Could Fund New Casino

ILLINOIS – As reported by the Bellville News-Democrat: "Metro-east gamblers would not see more payouts as a result of the Illinois Legislature's passage of a bill that would cut the top tax rate imposed on casino revenue.

"But casino goers can expect to see an indirect result, especially at the Casino Queen on the East St. Louis riverfront.

"Casino spokesman Paul Zemitzsch said the bill, which would scale back casino tax rates from 70 to 50 percent, would help pave the way for the casino's plans to build a new $150 million floating gambling boat and moat on 80 acres just east of the riverfront.

"Without it, Zemitzsch said, expansion plans could have been thrown out.

"…The move comes after others in the casino industry statewide made similar arguments against the tax, which was implemented in 2003…"
