Casino Supporters Continue Rockaway Beach Fight

MISSOURI – As reported by the Associated Press: "Backers of a plan to bring a casino to this tiny southwest Missouri town are meeting Thursday to begin work on a new campaign, a month after they were dealt a huge blow with the defeat of a constitutional amendment to set the process in motion.

"Members of the town's gambling committee planned a public meeting to talk over perceived misconceptions of their plan and to discuss making another try at winning voter approval, committee co-chairman Denny Howard said.

"…Howard said casino supporters don't have enough money to mount another petition drive.

"…Jim Druck, president of Southwest Casino and Hotel Corp. - the company city officials selected to build a riverboat casino - said he planned to meet with Rockaway Beach leaders later this month to discuss a second shot at the project…"
