Casino Strike Affecting Ontario Coffers4 May 2004ONTARIO – As reported by the Toronto Star: "With its workers on strike and its doors closed, Casino Windsor is losing about $1.6 million in revenues a day and that's affecting the Ontario government's coffers, Ontario Labour Minister Chris Bentley said today. "About 3,500 casino workers, who have been on strike since April 2, last week voted against a tentative contract. But Bentley refused to say if the government was considering back-to-work legislation. "…Casino Windsor, which pulled in total revenues of $597 million in 2003, has been closed since the outset of the strike. "Ontario received $1.9 billion in payments from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. in 2003 from casinos, lotteries and slot machines. Casinos contribute 20 per cent of their gaming revenue to the province.
