Casino revenues in Louisiana take big hit after storms

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana -- As reported by the Shreveport Times: "With many establishments closed during hurricanes Gustav and Ike, Louisiana's state-licensed casinos took a big hit in September as revenue dropped nearly 23 percent from September 2007.

"The national economy crisis, which already has hit other venues, also put a distinguishable shadow over the industry in Louisiana last month.

"In Shreveport-Bossier City, the only Louisiana market that did not have a storm closure last month, winnings dropped to $61.7 million in September from $68.2 million in September 2007.

"Louisiana's 13 riverboat casinos, the four slot machine casinos at racetracks and the downtown New Orleans casino took in just under $162.8 million from gamblers last month — down from $210.7 million the previous September. Outlets throughout the state were closed from three to eight days because of the storms..."
