Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw temporarily closes17 March 2020Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw has announced that it will be temporarily closing until further notice. Below is the announcement from Casino Regina's website. "The safety of guests and employees at Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw is paramount. As such, SaskGaming is heeding the advice of public health officials on the COVID-19 outbreak and will suspend operations and temporarily close Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw until further notice. This closure is effective at the end of the gaming day today – 2 a.m. on March 17, 2020 at Casino Moose Jaw and 4 a.m. on March 17, 2020 at Casino Regina. “The decision to temporarily close the casinos was based on direction from the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the province’s Chief Medical Health Officer,” SaskGaming’s President and CEO Susan Flett said. Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw are configured in such a way that limiting 250 people is beyond its operational capabilities. In addition, Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw depend on high-touch surfaces, such as slot machines, table games, cards, and chips, and it is beyond the capabilities of SaskGaming to ensure that these surfaces follow the public health guidelines that have been set out by the Chief Medical Health Officer. The decision to temporarily close operations is in line with other jurisdictions in Canada, including Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec and Nova Scotia, which have temporarily suspended their casino operations. “These are unprecedented times and we regret the impact these closures will have on our guests, employees and the local community,” Flett said. “However, the wellbeing of everyone is our most pressing concern at this time.” In accordance with SaskGaming’s pandemic plan, some employees have been deemed essential to the continued management of the corporation’s assets. “Ensuring our employees can focus on staying healthy and taking care of their families during this temporary shutdown is critically important,” Flett said. “SaskGaming will endeavor to minimize any financial hardship created for employees as a result of this temporary shutdown.” Please refer for this page for the most recent updates on the temporary closure. Casinos Regina and Moose Jaw thank you for your ongoing patronage. We look forward to welcoming you soon." |
