Casino Pushed for Harrogate

HARROGATE, United Kingdom – As reported by the Yorkshire Post: "A casino is being mooted as another way to ensure Harrogate retains its place in the top five of the UK's league table of conference and exhibition venues, which brings about £160 million of visitor and event spending to the district each year.

"The borough council is being recommended to make a bid to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to operate one of the proposed eight small casinos with a customer area of 8,000 sq ft and 80 gaming machines with a maximum jackpot of £4,000.

"…Harrogate International Centre's director, Stuart Quin, considers it would be inappropriate to have either of the larger casinos, but sees the smaller venue as an opportunity to widen the night-time attractions in one of the UK's key conference and exhibition destinations…"
