Casino Proposed for Pan Alto County, Iowa

IOWA – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "Gary Kirke's drive to get into the casino business has spread to a third community.

"In addition to proposing casinos in Ottumwa and west of Des Moines, Kirke has joined forces with residents in Palo Alto County to bring a riverboat to Emmetsburg.

"…Grace Entertainment, the company that runs Lakeside Casino Resort in Osceola and was sold in July to Nevada-based Herbst Gaming Inc., has partnered with city and county elected leaders there to propose a $35 million casino in Emmetsburg.

"Meanwhile, Palo Alto County residents led by Julie Clarkson, a community volunteer, have formed a not-for-profit group called Palo Alto County Gaming Development Corp. to apply for a casino license for Kirke's casino. Under state law, a not-for-profit group holds a casino's gambling license…"
