Casino panel member admits Dome bid link15 November 2006LONDON, England -- As reported by (UK) Times: "The independence of the panel deciding the location of Britain's first supercasino has been called into question after one of its members revealed that he has had business dealings with the American firm seeking a gambling licence at the Millennium Dome. "James Froomberg, part of the five-man casino advisory panel, held talks with the UK boss of Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) over the possible acquisition of Wembley Arena. AEG backed out of the purchase and acquired the dome site at Greenwich, southeast London, where it plans to build an entertainment complex containing a supercasino. "...Despite the potential conflict of interest — which Froomberg admitted after repeated inquiries from The Sunday Times — he has been allowed to take part in all discussions involving the Greenwich bid. "...The panel will make a recommendation about the siting of the supercasino and 16 smaller casinos in January to Tessa Jowell, the culture secretary..." |
