Casino organizes food drive

10 February 2014

MINNESOTA -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- In an effort to restock area food shelves after the holidays, Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley held a massive food drive at each casino on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

For every non-perishable food item guests brought in – up to three – they received $5 in free Grand Play™. Participation in the food drive had literally tons of participation, as guests donated more than 2.5 tons of non-perishable food items.
“We usually see a great response when we offer our guests an opportunity to join in our giving efforts, but this promotion went above and beyond our expectations,” said Heidi Hamers, corporate vice president of marketing for Grand Casinos.
Shuttle busses full of more than 5,000 pounds of canned goods made deliveries to Garrison Area Care Givers, in Garrison, Family Pathways on the Mille Lacs Reservation and Family Pathways in Hinckley.

This effort spun off of the casino’s holiday giving program in which they donated to five different organizations that have dedicated the past 365 days to helping others. The recipients – Make-A-Wish Minnesota, Minnesota Military Family Foundation, Kettle Kinship, Confidence Learning Center and Onamia Public School Indian Education program each received a check for $2,000.
