Casino Niagara Employees Reject Union11 December 2003NIAGARA, Ontario – As reported by the Workers at Casino Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ont., have voted against joining a union by a 59 percent margin, but the Canadian Auto Workers called the election tainted and vowed to contest it. "Dealers, cleaners, maintenance workers and other casino employees were eligible to vote in the election that concluded Sunday. Results were counted Tuesday by Canada's labor board. "The 907 votes cast for the union were outweighed by 1,334 against, said Paul Forder, national organizing director for the CAW, not counting disputed ballots. "…A spokesman for the government-owned casino said the union was free to pursue the charges, but had no comment on the substance of the allegation…" |
