Casino Lawyer Stole from Clients14 October 2004NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – As reported by the South Mississippi Sun Herald: "A former partner at a major law firm has admitted stealing $9 million that his clients paid the firm, according to a top official at the firm. "James G. Perdigao, who resigned last month at the demand of Adams and Reese LLC, has made $9 million in restitution, said Charles P. Adams Jr., the firm's managing partner. The firm said it reported the scam to affected clients and federal prosecutors as soon as it came to light last month. Perdigao's casino clients have included Pinnacle Entertainment and Bally Gaming. "Charles Plattsmier, head of the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, alleged in a Supreme Court filing that Perdigao 'has engaged in an astonishing scheme to convert millions of dollars of funds belonging either to the clients of the Adams and Reese law firm or the firm itself.' "…Perdigao specialized in representing gambling clients. One of his clients was former Treasure Chest Casino owner Robert Guidry, who was a key government witness in the 2000 trial that saw former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards convicted of extorting applicants for riverboat casino licenses…" |
