Casino Jets Working to Bring Back High Rollers7 October 2001LAS VEGAS , Nevada – Oct. 7, 2001 As reported by Reuters: “ Private jet fleets at the nation's top gaming companies have been working overtime in the last two weeks, as casinos try to lure back high rollers leery about flying since the horrifying hijackings of Sept. 11, casino executives said on Tuesday. ”…The high-roller gaming business, already in decline due to the economic slowdown, has suffered disproportionately in the current air travel slowdown because most big-betting customers depend on air travel to reach their destinations. ”…In a bid to lure back those customers, Park Place and MGM Mirage (MGG) -- the two companies that cater most to high rollers -- have put their private jets into active duty in the last two weeks, company officials said. ”…[Tom Gallagher, chief executive officer of Park Place Entertainment Corp] added that the jets are being used first and foremost to lure back domestic high rollers from markets like Los Angeles. He said that international players, who also make up a large portion of the business, have received less emphasis so far. ”Likewise, the three private jets owned by MGM Mirage have been in active duty since the attacks, said Chief Financial Officer Jim Murren. For many high rollers, who often wager millions of dollars in a single visit, convenience is a major reason for opting to use the private form of transportation…” |
