Casino Grande Put on Hold24 June 2004UGANDA – As reported by Kampala: "The licensing of the $2m Casino Grande has been put on ice as the finance ministry puts the final touches on a more stringent law governing the operations of casinos, ministry officials have said. "But the proprietors of the casino are crying foul arguing that they applied for a licence a year ago and have invested up to $2m based on the previous law. "The delay and the likely changes in the new law will affect their finances negatively, they say. "While presenting the 2004/2005 budget earlier this month, finance minister Gerald Ssendaula said in order to modernise laws dealing with stamp duty, casino, gaming and lotteries, the ministry and the First Parliamentary Counsel undertook a review of the laws and came up with Bills to be laid before Parliament for consideration.
