Casino Fraud Leads to Grow-Op Bust

ONTARIO – As reported by the Toronto Star: "York Regional police say a fraud investigation at a Caribbean casino led them to a local marijuana grow house, which has resulted in four arrests and a child placed with the Children's Aid Society.

"The fraud investigation began last December after several bank drafts were stolen between Nov. 13 and Nov. 27 from a CIBC branch, located in the West Beaver Creek and Highway 7 area in Richmond Hill.

"The drafts were used at the Royal Beach Casino on the island of St. Kitts by three individuals, who were known to the casino operators and had open lines of credit, police say.

"…At the same time, police searched another Markham home on Promelia Court, where the marijuana grow operation was found.

"…A 7-year-old boy was removed from the home — the 28th child to be removed from a marijuana or ecstasy lab in York Region this year…"
