Casino foes want see study

MIDDLEBOROUGH, Massachusetts -- As reported by the Boston Globe: "In the days since a multimillion-dollar agreement to bring a casino to Middleborough was struck, voters in the town, who are being asked to approve or reject the deal on Saturday, have not been able to study it.

"Town officials, who issued a press release Friday touting the deal's benefits for the town, will not release the 43-page agreement until tonight. They say they are reviewing the document for clerical errors.

"But opponents of the casino in Middleborough say those town officials are now unfairly withholding the document, which they say should be available under the state public records law. And they worry that they will not have enough time to make their case.

"...Public criticism of the town's negotiations with the Mashpee Wampanoag Indians led Middleborough to pull back from a June 12 agreement..."
