Casino foes petition names missing15 December 2006PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Evening Sun: "Opponents of a casino just east of Gettysburg were distraught when the executive director of the Gaming Control Board told the board Wednesday that only 1,434 petition signatures against the project were received as part of official testimony. "What about the more than 62,000 signatures they'd carried in during testimony in April, they asked. "Doug Harbach, the spokesman for the board, didn't know the answer but said he would look into it. "…Now, national preservation leaders who have formed a coalition opposed to the project are accusing the board of making an 'incomprehensible oversight' and asking whether the board is trying to downplay public opinion. "…Questions about community support and opposition have been raised for months, as more and more people in Adams County have taken to putting out yard signs stating their views, many in support of the project…" |
