Casino Exec Allowed to Reapply for License

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "Gary DiBartolomeo, the former president of Caesars Atlantic City who lost his casino license after admitting to a compulsive gambing problem and lying to state regulators, finally caught a break today after a string of setbacks.

"In a move not even his staunchest supporters expected, the New Jersey Casino Control Commission voted to allow him to reapply for a license early - 3 1/2 years into a five-year revocation.

"…On the advice of his attorney Lloyd Levenson, DiBartolomeo showed no reaction to the commission's 5-0 decision - which requires a separate hearing on his actual application for a license - and had nothing to say afterward.

"The Division of Gaming Enforcement had strenuously opposed DiBartolomeo's petition for early reapplication, even as it supported one from a convicted drug dealer at the same meeting today.

"…DiBartolomeo's casino license was revoked on Feb. 28, 2001, after the commission found he repeatedly gambled in violation of the terms of his 1995 license. gambling. He lost an estimated $389,000 at the tables and then lied to regulators about it…"
