Casino developer could make millions

WASHINGTON – As reported by the Columbian: "David Barnett, champion of the proposed Cowlitz casino, stands to make $2.3 million in the casino's first year and $9.1 million in its seventh year.

"Estimates of how much Barnett and his partners, the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, would earn can be derived using revenue projections contained in the Cowlitz Tribe's newly developed business plan. The plan is part of a bundle of documents included in the administrative draft of the casino's final environmental impact statement.

"Barnett, a member of the Cowlitz Tribe, formed the Salishan-Mohegan partnership three years ago to develop and manage the casino project.

"If the casino is built, the partnership would receive development fees equal to 3 percent of the project's $510 million cost, or $15.3 million. It also would receive a management fee of 24 percent of net revenues during each of the casino's first seven years…"
