Casino Defends Actions Over Woman Who Gambled Away $6m1 August 2006AUCKLAND, New Zealand -- As reported by Stuff.co.nz: "The 42-year-old woman at the centre of a Gambling Commission hearing lost an average of $30,000 a month at a casino the year before she was arrested for stealing to fuel her addiction. "In a landmark hearing, the Department of Internal Affairs is attempting to suspend Dunedin Casino's licence for failing to identify a problem gambler. "Christine Keenan spent more than $6 million over three years at the Dunedin Casino. "The casino's gambling inspector, Dermot Harris, told the hearing today management at the casino had approached Ms Keenan about her large spending – turning over $352,000 in March 2004 – a month in which she lost $29,000.
