Casino Dealer Accused of Embezzlement

27 May 2005

Las Vegas Sun

MISSISSIPPI -- A Grand Casino Gulfport dealer has been charged with embezzlement and gaming violations, including illegal payouts, officials say.

State Gaming Commission agents arrested Tony Vinson Norwood, 36, on Tuesday after observing him at table games.

Investigators said Norwood placed bets for casino patrons after a hand had been dealt and the outcome of the game was known. He also was accused of paying patrons for winning hands on lost wagers and not collecting money on lost wagers, among other violations.

A Grand Casino spokeswoman declined to say how long Norwood has been employed there.

Norwood was being held at the Harrison County jail. Justice Court Judge Bruce Roberts set bond at $100,000 pending a court appearance.

Gaming agents would not say how much money Norwood is accused of embezzling.

Embezzlement is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
