Casino Crash Injures 1713 September 2004MISSISSIPPI – As reported by the Mississippi Commercial Appeal: "A steady-handed driver was credited Sunday with saving lives in a tour bus crash in North Mississippi that injured 17 senior citizens, three critically. "The victims, all in their 60s and 70s, were returning from a trip to casinos in Tunica to their homes in Muscle Shoals, Ala., Sunday morning when the Anchor Tours bus crashed into three horses standing in the road in Benton County. "Only two of the passengers escaped with minor injuries. "Others suffered head injuries and broken bones, said Sgt. Horace Kitchens of the Mississippi Highway Patrol in New Albany. "…When the Anchor Tours bus topped a hill heading east on U.S. 72 about 1 1/2 miles east of the intersection with Miss. 5, Holley found the way blocked by three horses in the road, Kitchens said. "The bus hit the horses, and one of them was dragged under the bus, tearing out the air lines and disabling the brakes, Kitchens said. "…Despite losing his brakes and power steering, Holley was somehow able to keep the bus from flipping…" |
