Casino ceiling report critical of inspections5 February 2007FLORIDA -- As reported by South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "A Broward County investigation into the Pompano Park ceiling collapse concludes work was performed with incomplete plans, and it recommends formal complaints be made against a private company hired to provide building inspections at the site. "The report, released Friday by the Broward Board of Rules and Appeals, also recommends changes to require greater oversight of private inspectors often used by cities. The critical report stems from the Jan. 19 collapse of a 200-foot-by-50-foot section of ceiling at the Isle of Capri casino under construction at the horse track. No one was hurt, but the ceiling would have hung over slot machines once the $150 million, two-story casino opened. "...The casino developers have said the ceiling's collapse would not delay a grand opening in March..." |
