Casino Builders Receive Payment

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Sacromento Bee: ``Final payments were mailed last week to subcontractors who built the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino near Coarsegold, casino officials said Tuesday.

``But while the tribe and casino management firm say it's time to look ahead, some subcontractors believe they didn't get what they deserved and were not paid in a timely way.

``The resort and gaming complex opened in August and within two months subcontractors began filing mechanic's liens and lawsuits demanding payments. Eight lawsuits were filed demanding payment, and protests by subcontractors became a common sight near the casino.

```We issued a check last week to the final subcontractor,' Joyce Burel, chairwoman of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, said in a prepared statement. 'We are pleased to be moving forward to a bright future.'

``…But subcontractors said payments they received were not the same amount to which they agreed…"
