Carlisle Council Supports Casino Bid

UK – As reported by the UK Business Gazette: "Council chiefs say that 400 jobs could be created if Carlisle succeeds in its bid to have a casino.

"City councillors decided last month to put Carlisle's name forward for one of 17 casinos to be built across the country as gambling laws are relaxed.

"The government envisages three categories of casino – one huge Las Vegas-style operation, eight 'large' casinos of 16,000sq ft and eight 'small' casinos of 8,000sq ft.

"…The council's development director, Catherine Elliot, argues that a casino of this size could bring big economic benefits.

"…Carlisle's submission has been sent to the government's casino advisory panel, which is sifting through 68 such applications…"
