Canterbury Park Will Deal First Legal Poker Hand in Minnesota

The south end of the first floor grandstand is undergoing an almost $2 million renovation for the new card club. The 24-hour operation will open with 38 tables, full food and beverage service, a horse racing simulcasting area (complete with bet runners for card players) and a comfortable ambiance.

The entrance for the Canterbury Card Club is at the Club House entrance at the south end of the building. Games offered in the Canterbury Card Club are all unbanked games. They will include variations of stud poker, Texas Hold'em, Omaha, super pan 9, paigow poker and Minnesota 21. Only guests age 18 or older are allowed in the Canterbury Card Room.

The 1999 Legislature authorized the card club during the 1999 session as away to increase revenues for horse racing purses and the Minnesota Breeders' Fund. Canterbury Park estimates that revenue from the new card club will add between $1 and $1.5 million to purses after the first year of operation.

Canterbury Park (Nasdaq: TRAK) will open for its sixth racing season as a publicly held company on Saturday, May 20. The racing season will run through Labor Day this year. Canterbury Park recently announced a net income after taxes of $437,291 on revenues of $20,330,508 for 1999. It is the fourth straight year of profitability for the Company. Canterbury Park is home to Claiming Crown 2000, which is scheduled for August 6th.
