Candidates for Pennsylvania Gaming Board Named19 August 2004PENNSYLVANIA – As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "State Treasurer Barbara Hafer and a retiring state legislator are among the candidates under consideration for appointments to Pennsylvania's new gambling control board. "Democratic Rep. Jeffrey Coy is one of five people under review for the House Democratic Caucus appointment, Rep. Mike Veon, D-Beaver Falls, said Wednesday. Coy, the Democratic caucus secretary, has represented Franklin and Cumberland counties since 1983 and will retire when his term ends Nov. 30. He did not return calls seeking comment. "…If Coy is selected, he will have to resign from the House immediately, Veon said. The state Constitution prohibits a lawmaker from accepting appointment to a salaried job in state government 'during the time for which he was elected,' but Veon said a lawmaker's term ends with resignation. "…Rendell has said he will make his third appointment to the board after House Democrats and Senate Republicans name their choices…" |
