Cancer fraud gambling addict jailed for 3 years

28 January 2011

VICTORIA, British Columbia -- A gambling addict who fraudulently claimed she had cancer and bilked money out of her relatives and friends has been jailed, the CBC reported.

37-year-old Tina Sammons conned people out of $350,000 in a string of healthcare lies that included cancer, heart surgeries, and a kidney transplant, CBC said.

Sammons spent all the cash gambling at casinos, but her husband says he's forgiven her, the report explained.

She was sentenced to three years and the judge has insisted she serve some prison time, CBC noted.
