Canadians on Top of the World Amateur Poker Tour Scene

31 January 2006

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Canadians top the world ranks for 2005 on the World Amateur Poker Tour (www.worldamateurpokertour.com).

Joel Ostroff, of Bradford, who had held the number one position since January '05, finished on top of the world and James Banks, of Ottawa, climbed the leader board in December to reach the number two spot, narrowly edging out Carl Harrison of the United Kingdom, who finished third, by less than two World Ranking Point Systemâ„¢points.

Mr. Ostroff also claimed the title of 2005 WAPT Player of the Year. The championship was decided in the final week of 2005 as Mr. Harrison of the United Kingdom pulled ahead in the final Major of the year (the French Open) just to have Mr. Ostroff edge him out on the last day, with a win in the weekly Tour Members Quarterly, 4th quarter event.

The World Amateur Poker Tour, with 4,000+ members from every major continent in the world, has over 450 chapters ramping up worldwide. Open to all amateur players who want to learn the game of Texas Hold'em poker in a free or real money environment, the WAPT welcomes all newcomers to play on-line against the best amateur players in the world.
