Canadian fines on gambling flights overturned

30 June 2010

CANADA -- A $25,000 fine on Atlantic City's Borgata Casino has been overturned by an appeals panel, CBC News reported.

The fine was imposed over a lack of an aviation licence (Canadian) for 10 flights between Atlantic City and Montreal and Toronto, CBC News said.

The Canadian Transportation Agency insisted the casino needed a licence but the casino appealed the fine and the appeals panel found in favour of the casino because the flights were not open to members of the public, the CBC News reported.

The flights were ferrying hi-roller gamblers to and from the casino, the report noted.
