Canada's Only Riverboat Casino to Move

NEW WESTMINSTER – As reported by the Province: "Canada's only riverboat casino is headed for operations on dry land if its New Westminster owners get their wish.

"'It has been very difficult to operate a casino on a vessel,' said Gateway Casino president Dave Gadhia, who wants to sell the Royal City Star and start a shore-based facility in Queensborough.

"The 80-metre paddlewheeler has been entertaining gamblers since tying up at the New Westminster Quay in 1999.

"But maintenance difficulties and the B.C. Lottery Corp.'s willingness to relocate casinos may have spelled the end of the ship's Fraser River adventure…"
