California Tribe, Wynn Discuss Casino

GARDEN GROVE, California – As reported by the L.A. Times: "City officials have talked with a San Diego County Indian tribe and developer Steve Wynn to build a casino here just blocks from Disneyland.

"The city, located in Orange County, said it would sell as much as 45 acres in a redevelopment area to the Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians, which wants to build a resort that has shopping, restaurants and live entertainment comparable to Las Vegas.

"…But other local officials, including Mayor Bruce Broadwater, believe the casino would attract crime and wouldn't be family oriented.

"…City officials said they met with Wynn earlier this year to discuss the idea and had also pitched it to representatives of the governor.

"…Casino industry analysts and local officials said they don't believe the deal would be approved…"
