California Tribal Casino Raided

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the (California) Press Democrat: "Investigators raided Shodakai Casino outside Ukiah and the homes of tribal leaders Tuesday, seizing files and computers in a search for evidence of embezzlement at the Redwood Valley casino.

"Almost 100 federal, state and local law enforcement agents searched at least nine locations in the series of raids.

"…The raids were part of a probe into alleged misuse of tribal funds by leaders of the Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians, according to two law enforcement sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"The allegations surfaced during a bitter battle among Coyote Valley members for control of the seven-member tribal council and the Shodakai Casino.

"…The Shodakai Casino remained open Tuesday while investigators carted away computer terminals and boxes of documents.

"…Critics of tribal leaders contend the Coyote Valley council drew large salaries and incurred high travel expenses while the general membership saw its share of casino revenues decline…"
