California Tribal Casino Breaks Ground

12 January 2006

LA POSTA INDIAN RESERVATION, California – As reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune: "It will be one of the smallest casinos in San Diego County. But for the tiny La Posta Indian band, yesterday's groundbreaking was a huge milestone.

"'It's very important,' La Posta tribal Chairwoman Gwendolyn Parada said of the $15 million project launched yesterday on this remote East County reservation. 'It's all for the future, the future for the kids.'

"…Construction was expected to begin yesterday and be completed by November or December.

"With 349 slot machines, La Posta's casino will be less than half the size of the Campo tribe's Golden Acorn Casino, which is 1½ miles to the south – and much closer to the freeway. Both reservations rely on Interstate 8's Crestwood/Live Oak Springs exit, an hour's drive east of San Diego…"
