California tribal casino accepts applicants28 November 2006THERMAL, California – As reported by the Desert Sun: "The new, $20 million Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians casino is one step closer to the cha'ching of a slot machine. "Job candidates began to line up Monday. "The tribe, which plans to open its 329-slot casino Feb. 15 next to its Travel Center at 3095 W. Highway 86, received over 100 applications during a hiring fair called 'Job Connection' sponsored by the Riverside County Economic Development Agency in Indio. "'The response has been good,' said C.J. Burdette, who works in the tribe's human resources department and worked at Monday's event. "Burdette said the Torres Martinez is focusing on management and supervisory positions now. But the tribe is accepting applications for all positions in the 15,000-square-foot casino, some applicants have hailed from as far away as the Carolinas and the Midwest. "…The local candidate pool appeared to be significant, as well, he said, guessing one hour before the job fair had closed that the number of applications would rise above 100…" |
