California Town Fights Limit Change

COLMA, California – As reported by the San Francisco Examiner: "Town officials told the state of California this week that Lucky Chances casino and its unlimited table betting is legal, and the casino being reduced to a $200 wagering limit would severely impact town coffers.

"Town Manager Diane McGrath, Town Attorney Roger Peters, Lucky Chances attorney Mike Franchetti and members of the Division of Gambling Control met in closed session Tuesday. They were to discuss Colma's legal response to a letter the state sent the town July 29 asking that the casino reduce its betting maximum to $200.

"The state had asked Colma to reduce the casino's wagering limits by Aug. 31. McGrath said last week that the meeting Tuesday was to act as the town's response.

"…McGrath said Lucky Chances would continue to operate as is, with no betting cap, under an amended town ordinance from May 1998. Lucky Chances opened its doors June 28, 1998…"
