California public casino debate resumes16 February 2007IONE, California – As reported by the Record Net: "The public debate over whether to build a casino with 2,000 slot machines and 80 gaming tables on Indian land between Valley Springs and Ione resumes during public meetings here tonight and Saturday. "The Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians is inviting public comments on a 367-page report on the likely impacts the casino would have on everything from crime to traffic to air pollution. The report is the tribe's second. "The compacts that govern Indian gaming in California require tribes to negotiate with local governments, in this case Amador County, over how to compensate for the impacts a casino will have on the community…" |
