California Lotto Director Resigns

SACRAMENTO, California – As reported by the Tri-Valley Herald: "Acting Lottery Director Chon Gutierrez is resigning amid controversy over the legality of Californias recent entrance into the multi-state Mega Millions lotto game, sources told The Oakland Tribune, a sister paper to the Herald, on Wednesday.

"Gutierrez, who recently served as a Schwarzenegger administration troubleshooter on government reorganization, told his top staff members that he was going on vacation and then would retire after 34 years of state service in various capacities under multiple administrations.

"Aides to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who appointed Gutierrez acting lottery director, said they had not received an official resignation letter.

"…An anti-gambling group filed a lawsuit in July alleging that the game violates a voter-approved aspect of the state constitution, which authorized a lottery only within state borders…"
