California lottery offers chance at largest jackpots18 January 2008ACRAMENTO, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- With $85 million in top-prize money between them, North America's two largest lottery jackpots are California Lottery games. MEGA Millions and SuperLOTTO Plus both have jackpots in excess of $40 million. The next set of winning numbers for MEGA Millions will be drawn Friday at 8 p.m. The next set for SuperLOTTO Plus will be drawn Saturday night at 7:57 p.m. At the more than 19,000 California Lottery retail locations, players can purchase tickets for both games. Tickets cost $1 and can be purchased until 7:45 p.m. the night of the draw. Players also have the option of buying the "California Combo," which is five Quick Pick tickets for MEGA Millions and five Quick Pick tickets for SuperLOTTO Plus, all in one transaction. The weekend jackpot for MEGA Millions is estimated to be $42 million. The estimated jackpot for SuperLOTTO Plus is slightly more at $43 million. The next largest jackpot in North America is $18 million from the state lottery in Michigan. |
