California lawmakers want casino vote

SACRAMENTO, California -- As reported by the Palm Springs Desert Sun: "Assembly Republicans want Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez, D-Los Angeles, to schedule a vote on legislation allowing five tribes, including the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, to expand their casinos.

"In a May 22 letter to Núñez, twenty-two Assembly GOP members complained that the Assembly has taken no action on the compacts since they were passed by the Senate April 19.

"...The compacts, which the tribes and governor signed last year, would allow an increase of 22,500 slot machines in the tribal casinos. In return, the tribes would pay the state a portion of their winnings..."
