California Gambling Commission Chairman Appointed13 February 2004CALIFORNIA – As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle: "Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger filled the long-vacant chairmanship of the state's Gambling Control Commission on Thursday with a former Wilson administration official and police chief whose jurisdictions have included casino-dotted South Lake Tahoe. "Burks Dean Shelton, 67, of Fair Oaks (Sacramento County), will receive a salary of $117,818 while serving a roughly two-year term to end December 2006, Schwarzenegger's office said in a statement. "…Shelton was law enforcement liaison for Gov. Pete Wilson from 1992 to 1998, during which time he served as executive director of the Office of Criminal Justice Planning and as a commissioner on the Board of Prison Terms. He also served for three years on a law enforcement advisory committee to the California Lottery. "He ended 10 years as police chief of South Lake Tahoe (El Dorado County) in 1991, having joined the department in 1967. Most recently, he was interim police chief for the city of Woodland (Sacramento County) in 2002 and Ripon (San Joaquin County) in 2000…" |
