California County Supervisor Seeks Ban on Casinos

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Argus Online: "Contra Costa County supervisors on Tuesday will consider a resolution opposing the creation of Indian gaming casinos in the county -- potentially bad news for a couple of tribes hoping to do exactly that.

"'We have lots of rumors, and I've been visited about some folks who have interest in property in North Concord,' said Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier, whose central-county district includes Concord, Pleasant Hill and parts of Walnut Creek.

"…DeSaulnier said he is bringing the draft resolution to spark a public dialogue.

"…But DeSaulnier said his resolution targets only the county's unincorporated areas, and so would not affect the Casino San Pablo card room that is owned and operated by the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians.

"…The Lytton Band took over Casino San Pablo last October, but cannot install Nevada-style, house-banked gaming without first negotiating a compact with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Talks reportedly are under way…"
