California County Forms Gaming Committee

PALM SPRINGS, California – As reported by the (Palm Springs, California) Desert Sun: "Local communities should soon be able to tap into a multimillion-dollar jackpot to offset the impacts of Indian gaming on public services and infrastructure.

"The Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved formation of the Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee.

"The committee's task will be to review and distribute grants anticipated to total some $8 million to $10 million a year countywide.

"The largest portion of the funding will be allocated based on the geographical nexus of cities and counties with tribal casinos. Five of the county's nine casinos are in the Coachella Valley.

"…The money, expected to be available by the middle of next year, may be spent on services ranging from gambling addiction programs to fire protection and law enforcement, child care and health care, to road expansions and water projects.

"… Made up of the gaming tribes within Riverside, San Bernardino and Santa Barbara counties, it is estimated that the TASIN tribes alone will contribute $1 billion to the distribution fund through 2020, constituting two thirds of all payments throughout the state…"
