California Commission Allowed Closed Sessions

SACRAMENTO, California – As reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune: "Legislation to give California's gambling commission greater discretion to conduct its business in closed session was sent to the governor yesterday after a final vote in the Senate.

"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to sign the bill, which was introduced at the request of the administration. The Senate approved the measure, SB 919, on a 23-10 vote.

"It sailed out of the Assembly without opposition two weeks ago after the administration agreed to tighten language that had drawn some criticism.

"Sen. Dave Cox, a Fair Oaks Republican who carried the bill, said the legislation would enable the commission to meet privately to discuss information – such as audits and background investigations – that has been deemed confidential by a gambling compact or state or federal law…"
